Forgotten Realms modules and sourcebooks are modules (adventures) and sourcebooks (campaign setting information) printed for the Forgotten Realms campaign setting in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.
The book chronicles the rise and fall of the fictional Temple of Nine Swords within the D&D universe and introduces an entirely new "initiator" subsystem that gives greater flexibility. The module was written by game designer David "Zeb" Cook, who partly ascribes his hiring by TSR to his work on this module. Ed Greenwood explained that his incentives for working on this book involved "the chance to delve into some of the hitherto-neglected facets of running high-level campaigns, including trade, intrigue, and social matters, and the opportunity… The book was written by Monte Cook and published by Wizards of the Coast in October 2002. The adventures listed here are official Wizards of the Coast Dungeons & Dragons 3/3.5 adventures only. The first 3rd Edition adventure module published (not counting OGL/d20 STL modules) was The Sunless Citadel, in 2000. All references to a progression from the Basic Set to Advanced Dungeons & Dragons were removed from the games and supplements as TSR, Inc. made clear that the expected progression was from the Basic Set to the Expert Set.
